THERE’S BEEN A WONDERFUL CHANGE IN PLANS!
“Orchestra of the Midlands” will perform its Spring 2013 Concert at one of the most beautiful and historically significant settings in the City of Aiken, on the lawn at Banksia, now the home of the Aiken County Historical Museum.
Maestro Donald Portnoy has assembled an orchestra, which includes a number of First Chair musicians and leading professional instrumentalists who regularly perform in South Carolina’s major symphony orchestras. These professional musicians will come from as far away as Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville to join the Orchestra.
The original Concert date has been moved from April 11, 2013 to SUNDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 5, 2013 AT 4:00pm in order to obtain the new location and accommodate the musicians.
On that first Sunday afternoon in May, the Lawn at Banksia will be transformed into a one day summer music festival site, patterned on Tanglewood, Wolftrap, and Ravinia, although much smaller, of course. The program will likewise be patterned after the highly successful Boston Pops Concerts and will include everything from Mozart to selections from My Fair Lady.
The grounds at Banksia will open at 2:00 PM, two hours in advance of the performance, for patrons who would like to spread a picnic on the lawn. Please bring your favorite chair or blanket for this special event.
For those who haven’t made reservations yet, tickets will be available at the Museum, on line, and at several other locations. Call our Office at 643-4774 for details. The cost of this performance is $25 per person and $15 for any student attending elementary, secondary or post-secondary school. Subject to availability, tickets may be purchased at the Museum after 2:00 PM on the day of the concert.
Overflow parking with shuttle services will be available at the ABBE Regional Library located at 314 Chesterfield Street from 2pm to 4pm and then returning from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Feel free to drop off your chairs, etc at the Museum before parking at the Library.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to Aiken’s First Presbyterian Church, 224 Barnwell Avenue NW, Aiken.
Woodside Plantation Country Club is preparing lovely box lunches for $10 each. Lunches must be ordered in advance and prepaid by calling 803-643-0800 or 803-643-4774 or can be purchased at the Aiken County Historical Museum during hours of operation. Lunches will be delivered the day of the Concert to the Aiken County Historical Museum at 3pm for convenient pick up.
Content of the box lunch includes:
* turkey, ham, cheese sandwich on hoagie roll
* pasta salad in 3 oz container
* package of chips
* fresh-baked cookie
* stem fresh grapes (seedless)
* condiments (mayo & mustard packs)
* napkin and plastic utensils with salt & pepper packs
* handy-wipe pack
* bottle of water
